Alex McFarlane is a rising star in the South African wine game. This release of Monday's Child is only her second vintage for her range, and the quality is mindblowing. All of her fruit comes from a very old vineyard block called Kariebib that was planted in 1988. The wine is fermented and aged in old oak barrels, and so has a richness and elegance to it that is a far cry from the cheap and cheerful expressions of Chenin Blanc that you often get coming from Stellenbosch. Alex is a clinical winemaker and extremely careful and precise about every decision she makes throughout. The wine is aged for 7 months with regular batonnage, and then bottled unfined and unfiltered.
