"The Hand Of Inanna"
Limited edition hand painted hand sculpture by Juliet Sugg, 2022.
This painted hand sculpture, in collaboration with Hackney Art Trail and Mad Atelier is loosely inspired by the ancient Mesopotamian poem ‘Inanna’s Descent to the Underworld’, inscribed onto a clay tablet. Moulding together a selection of various folkloric cultural goddesses whose protagonists were once seen as powerful and equal, it is celebration of the feminine divine, appropriated folklore and the use of artefact to withhold narrative.
About Juliet Sugg:
Juliet Sugg is a multidisciplinary artist who works in variety of mediums to create, disquiet, deceptively pretty imagery in the form of illustrative and immersive art. Often combing drawing, performance and installation art, her practice challenges boundaries of visual narrative and traditional perceptions of the female protagonist whilst simultaneously carving out space for the cathartic voice.
