Rattan (from the Malay rotan) is the name for roughly 600 species of climbing palms, and they are extensively used to make decorative objects. When cut into sections, rattan can be used as wood to make furniture, and as the inner core can be separated, it can be worked into wicker for baskets and other fine objects, such as our Cyprus hanging lamps.
